Set up your phone for POP3 email

If you're using a POP3 email account in your email application on your computer, you can also set it up on your phone. Follow these instructions to set up your phone for POP3 email.

Select an alternative email configuration:
- Set up your phone for web-based email
- Set up your phone for Telstra Mail
- Set up your phone for Exchange email

    Find "Access Point Names"
    • Press the menu icon.
    • Press Settings.
    • Press More....
    • Press Mobile networks.
    • Press Access Point Names.

    Create new data connection
    • Press the menu icon.
    • Press New APN.

    Enter data connection name
    • Press Name.
    • Key in Telstra Mail and press OK.

    Enter APN
    • Press APN.
    • Key in telstra.wap and press OK.
    • An APN is used to establish a data connection.

    Enter country code
    • Press MCC.
    • Key in 505 and press OK.

    Enter network code
    • Press MNC.
    • Key in 01 and press OK.

    Select authentication type
    • Press Authentication type.
    • Press None.

    Select APN type
    • Press APN type.
    • Key in default and press OK.

    Save and activate data connection
    • Press the menu icon.
    • Press Save.
    • Press the field next to Telstra Mail to activate the data connection.
    • When the field is marked, the data connection is activated.
    • Press the home icon to return to standby mode.

    Find "Email"
    • Press the menu icon.
    • Press Email.
    • If email accounts have been created already, press the menu icon. Press Settings. Press ADD ACCOUNT.

    Create new email account
    • Press Other email account.

    Enter email address
    • Key in your email address.

    Enter password
    • Press Password and key in the password for your email account at your email provider.
    • Press Next.

    Select server type
    • Press POP3.

    Enter username
    • Key in the username for your email account.

    Enter incoming server
    • Press the field below POP3 server and key in the name of your email provider's incoming email server.

    Enter incoming port
    • Press the field below Port and key in 110

    Turn off SSL encryption of incoming email
    • Press the drop down list below Security type.
    • Press None.
    • SSL encryption protects your email when sending and receiving email. If you turn on SSL encryption, your email provider and internet service provider need to support this function, and you might need to select further settings before you can send and receive email.

    Select setting for deleting email from server
    • Press the drop down list below Delete email from server.
    • Press the required setting.
    • Press Next.

    Enter outgoing server
    • Key in the name of your email provider's outgoing server.

    Enter outgoing port
    • Press the field below Port and key in 25

    Turn off encryption of outgoing email
    • Press the drop down list below Security type.
    • Press None.
    • SSL encryption protects your email when sending and receiving email. If you turn on SSL encryption, your email provider and internet service provider need to support this function, and you might need to select further settings before you can send and receive email.

    Turn SMTP authentication on or off
    • Press Require sign-in to turn SMTP authentication on or off.
    • When the box next to the menu item is ticked (V), SMTP authentication is turned on.

    Enter username for outgoing server
    • Press the field below Username and key in your username for your email provider's outgoing server, if required.
    • The menu item is only available if you turned on SMTP authentication in step 23.

    Enter password for outgoing server
    • Press the field below Password and key in your password for your email provider's outgoing server, if required.
    • The menu item is only available if you turned on SMTP authentication in step 23.

    Select setting for retrieval of new email
    • Press Next.
    • Press the drop down list below Inbox check frequency.
    • Press Manual or the required period.

    Select default email account
    • Press Send email from this account by default to select a default email account.
    • When the box next to the menu item is ticked (V), the function is turned on.

    Turn email notification on or off
    • Press Notify me when email arrives to turn the function on or off.
    • When the box next to the menu item is ticked (V), the function is turned on.

    Turn email synchronisation on or off
    • Press Sync email from this account to turn the function on or off.
    • When the box next to the menu item is ticked (V), the function is turned on.
    • Press Next.

    Enter email account name
    • Key in a name for the email account.

    Enter sender name
    • Press the field below Your name (displayed on outgoing messages) and key in the required sender name.

    Retrieve email
    • Press Next.
    • Wait while your phone retrieves new email.

    • Press the home icon to return to standby mode.
